When You Woke That Thursday Morning

The Last Supper, ca. 1495
Leonardo da Vinci

Never so alone and lonely,
longing with tormented heart
to be with Your dear ones only
for a quiet hour apart.
Sinless Lamb and fallen creature,
one last Pascal Meal to eat,
one last lesson as their teacher
washing Your disciples' feet.
“When You Woke that Thursday Morning”
Jaroslav Vajda

Life is inconsistent. Happiness, love, health, and wealth wax and wane like a tide leaving behind shallow pools of joy, disappointment, hope, and anger. Jesus' ministry on earth seemed much the same as we remember Him on Maundy Thursday, having one Last Supper with those He loves, foretelling the salvation of the world that was to come while a cross of torture and shame waited for Him at Calvary.

Whether today you're sitting around a dinner table with friends or marching towards your Calvary, Jesus remains unchanging at your side: a King who has died for you and will still wash your feet. Today and everyday, you can find Him in the bread and wine of the Sacrament of the Eucharist that was instituted by our Lord on that fateful Thursday two-thousand years ago, as always waiting for you with forgiveness ready in His hands. Go and take refuge in Him this week. Click here to find a church near you.

“Taste and see that the Lord is good—
blessed are those who take refuge in Him.”
