"I'll be home for Christmas.
You can count on me.
Please have snow and mistletoe,
and presents on the tree.
Christmas Eve will find me
where the lovelight gleams.
I'll be home for Christmas,
if only in my dreams."
“I'll
Be Home for Christmas”
by Kim Gannon, Walter Kent, & Buck Ram
New York, 1943

This
carol was written from the point of view of WWII soldiers who of
course could not be physically home for Christmas. So, it's merry
theme has an appropriate sadness to it, a deep longing that still
resonates with us 70 years later. Christmas
is a wonderful time to be with family and friends, but do not be
fooled. That is NOT what Christmas is about. Go
HOME for Christmas, to where the love light really gleams. Go to
church. Please.
"For where two or three are gathered in my name,
there am I among them."
