God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen

"God rest ye merry, gentlemen,
let nothing you dismay;
Remember Christ, our Savior,
was born on Christmas day,
to save us all from Satan's power
when we were gone astray.
O tidings of comfort and joy!"
“God Rest Ye Merry, Gentlemen”

“O death, where is your victory?
O death, where is your sting?"
The sting of death is sin,
and the power of sin is the law.
But thanks be to God, who gives us
the victory through our LORD
Jesus Christ.
1 Corinthians 15:55-57
It's easy to be swallowed up by the cares of the world, the daily pain and stress and sadness, the horrific violence and pure evil that permeates our culture, especially this time of year.  God watches over us, but so many lives are cut viciously short. God provides, but so many of us can’t pay our bills no matter how hard we work. God takes care of us, but we suffer and die each and every day. God gives us comfort, but our hearts ache horribly for our lost loved ones whether we're sitting in church or at home alone. Heaven is secure, but the world eats us alive.

We often forget that same security stays with us throughout our time on earth. God will not forsake us, not now and not after our death, because Jesus Christ our Savior was born on Christmas Day. God loves you this very minute the same as He loved you when He sent His one and only Son to die for you, and the same as He will love you when His Son returns to bring us all merry rest. So, God rest ye merry, gentlemen, you can be afflicted, but you cannot be defeated. JESUS IS VICTORIOUS.
