2000 (Loud) Years of Wrong... and counting

“But with the woes of sin and strife
the world has suffered long.
Beneath the angel strain have rolled
two thousands years of wrong,
And man at war with man hears not
the love song which they bring.
O hush the noise, ye men of strife,
and hear the angels sing.”
“It Came Upon the Midnight Clear”
by Edmund Sears
Massachusetts, 1849

While the angels rejoice in heaven, you and I toil here on earth. If we've slept at all the night before, we wake up in pain, already stressed. The first thing on our minds? Our ailment. Our loved one who has died. The bills we can't pay. The injustices we've suffered or caused. The job we lost. Sadness, anxiety, loneliness, stress... So, we turn on the TV in hopes of some distraction, and the morning news spouts loud flashes of tragedy that emanate from hate, sickness, and outright evil. Angels sing while we struggle to maintain both life and faith.

It's difficult to hear any angelic voices above the clamor of sin. Difficult, but not impossible. In such a sinful world, you and I can’t afford to just hear. We have to listen. Make time for God: go to church, sing a hymn, say a prayer, read the Bible, receive the Lord's Supper, and remember your baptism +. There, you will hear God’s love for you. Hush the noise of the world and of your heart for a few minutes and remember Jesus came down from heaven to make all things right.

"Be still and know that I am God."
